218 million — Are you One?

1 October 2009 No Comment
218 million. That is right — 218 million.
Imagine that in dollars. Imagine that in thefts. Both are phenomenal numbers to comprehend.

Now, just imagine you being one of the 218 million within the last year that has experienced a theft of identity. Last night, being with a group of people, many did not realize the horror of this crime. If I may, let me review some of our discussions about identity theft.

Let’s talk about the definition of identity. Webster’s dictionary says: identity is “to cause to be identical; to conceive as united; to be or become the same; sameness in all that constitutes the objective reality of a thing.” That “thing” is YOU.

What I try to impress on everyone is that we are talking about you and your future. Even though we each work and focus daily on our professions and our future, these can be literally wiped out by three tragedies:

a medical crisis

a legal suit, or

an identity theft

Over any of these, each of us has minimal control. I am not a doctor nor a lawyer. I am, however, an identity theft consultant, and this cancer (identity theft) is spreading across the country. This crime is one of which you should be educated…….now.

Just think about the person you saw while you were filling up your gasoline tank this morning. That person is an individual who probably is a business person and has a schedule every day of what he has to accomplish at home, at the office, and for the community. Do you have control over his energies today? Do you? Does he has control over yours? Of course not. You do not have control over his schedule nor his actions. Nor should you. You are happy to have control over yours, right ?! Well, why do people think they have control over someone who is out to steal their identities? You don’t. You have no control.

This is my mission ……. to educate and guide people in reference to this fastest growing crime. We live through different chapters of our lives, and God prepares us for each one. The older I get, the more I see His hand has been on each page of each chapter of my life…………and grooming me for the next. How blessed I am to be a child of God.
