Beautiful Savior

25 September 2009 No Comment
Thursday night is a “high” for me, for that is when the choir meets for 1.5 hour to prepare for the next few weeks’ anthems. It is phenomenal to see and hear the end results of a musician’s work in putting all the notes and words together in order to develop various musical presentations.
With the piano and the vocal cords coming together in harmony, sometimes adjectives can not describe the beauty.

The words of one of the anthems, “Beautiful Savior”, were written in 1677 and translated in 1873 when put to music. Does that not blow your mind? It is gently flowing with all four vocal families taking part in this phenomenal piece of music. The music and the words flow so well and minister to all. Let’s share the story:

Beautiful Savior! King of creation!

Son of God and Son of Man!

Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee,

Light of my soul, my joy, my crown.

Fair are the meadows,

Fair are the woodlands,

Robed in flow’rs of blooming spring.

Jesus is fairer, Jesus if purer.

He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

Fair is the sunshine,

Fair is the moonlight.

Bright the sparkling stars on high.

Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer

Than all the angels in the sky.

Beautiful Savior! Lord of the nations!

Son of God and Son of man!

Glory and honor,

Praise, adoration, now, and forever more be Thine.

Glory and honor,

Praise, adoration now and forever more be Thine!

Are the words not beautiful in themselves? What more can I say?

 Praise be to God.
